Following Mohamed Salah’s Thursday night break of Thierry Henry’s European record, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised the player.
The number eleven for Liverpool came off the bench to score in their 5-1 thumping of Toulouse, a French Ligue 1 team, in their Europa League matchup yesterday. He took a ball and fired his shot into the roof of the net.
In terms of the most goals scored by a Premier League player in Europe, Salah (43) surpassed Henry’s (42) record.
His eighth goal of the 2023–2024 season came from the strike. Only five goals remain for the Egyptian forward to reach 200 for the Merseyside team.
Before their Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, Klopp acknowledged that Salah has raised his already impressive game.
“If you see him sitting on the bench, he’s always eager to play! However, he also took pleasure in observing the other guys before entering the game and scoring the goal.
“I’m overjoyed for him. He is developing in his role for us and possibly in football as a whole.
“To demonstrate that in order to maintain [the] highest caliber, it’s good to savor the present before moving on—and he is clearly doing just that.
“I was unaware that there were records. If I had given it more thought, I believe I left him out of a record-breaking opportunity once, so perhaps he would have broken a few more! It wasn’t deliberate.
