Roberto Firmino left Liverpool for Al Ahly last summer after scoring a hat-trick on his competitive debut, but the Liverpool legend is yet to score as his form deteriorated after a successful start to the league. He lives in Al-Ahli.
The Brazilian moved to Saudi Arabia in the summer after deciding to leave Liverpool at the end of his contract. Firmino has been offered an extension to his stay at Anfield, but after considering his options he has decided to take on a new challenge. The 32-year-old achieved legend status during an illustrious eight-year career with the Reds, during which he scored 111 goals in 362 appearances and won several major awards.
He originally moved to Merseyside from German club Hoffenheim for £29m in the summer of 2015. Firmino joined Al Ahly on a three-year deal last July. He was one of several big signings from clubs in the Arabian Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window. Riyad Mahrez and Edouard Mendy both joined Firmino from Al Ahly and he started well in his first game for the club, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Al Hazem. But Firmino has registered just two assists since then, despite losing just two of his 11 games so far this season.
The striker celebrated Al-Ahly’s victory on his Instagram page after the recent 3-1 win over Al-Wehda. A third person wrote: “Come back to reality. Not Firmino. Al-Ahly fans await your return! Another wrote: “Next game is against league leaders Al Hilal. We want to see your Liverpool level.”Firmino’s Al Ahly are back in action on Friday night when they take on Al Hilal at the King Fahd International Stadium.
