James Maddison has been dubbed by Jamie Carragher as the Premier League’s most important player thus far this season.
The assertion was made by the former Liverpool defender after Maddison assisted his team, Tottenham Hotspur, in a 2-0 victory over Fulham. With the victory, Ange Postecoglou’s team topped the Premier League standings.
Heung-Min Son had given Spurs the lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Maddison calmly finished off his ball to score his third Premier League goal of the year.
The England international moved to the club earlier this summer in a £45 million signing from Leicester City after his former team was demoted to the Sky Bet Championship the previous year. Since the start of the new season, Maddison has appeared in every Premier League game for Spurs and has contributed five assists. On Monday Night Football, Carragher remarked, “For me, he’s been perhaps the most significant player in the Premier League. “I believe he has had that much influence.
“The manager deserves all the credit. Although he (Maddison) has played a significant role in that, it is his philosophy and style of play.
“He has come in and taken the No. 10 (Harry Kane’s shirt), possibly the greatest player to have ever played,” the former center back remarked. When Carragher questioned Maddison about whether it was accurate to call him the Premier League’s most significant player this year, Maddison responded, “That’s the intention. Although it is high praise, I value it.
The attention, pressure, and responsibility increase when you join one of these bigger clubs, despite the fact that Tottenham is a greater club than Leicester and that I liked my time there. That’s what I adore and live off of.
“There are 60,000 fans here today, and I absolutely adore these Monday Night Football events. I perform at my best then.
“I felt great today, and I’m glad we won because we’re playing great together,” said the player.Â
