Romeo Lavia, a Belgian midfielder, was not available for Liverpool to sign this summer. This is because the club’s owners, FSG (Fenway Sports Group), were unwilling to pay a premium for the former Southampton player. The Athletic revealed that before Lavia signed a £58 million contract with Chelsea, Liverpool had three bids for him rejected.Regretfully, Lavia hasn’t played for Chelsea yet, mostly because of injuries.Looking back, it seems like FSG made the right choice by choosing not to pursue Lavia. Instead, Liverpool signed Ryan Gravenberch, a young Dutch player who has improved the team’s performance this year.

Despite being called a “incredible” player by Pep Guardiola, Lavia has had trouble breaking into Chelsea’s starting lineup.Having failedobtain a spot in Chelsea’s team.August’s big stories focused on the unsuccessful attempt to sign Lavia, but in retrospect, Liverpool fans might consider it a gift in disguise.

The inclusion of FSG in Liverpool’s transfer plan allowed for the signing of Gravenberch, a player with promise who might be a long-term asset to the team.

Following the international break, Liverpool will play their local rivals Everton in a Merseysider derby on Saturday in the Premier League.
