Robbie Earle, a former football player turned pundit, praised Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson for his outstanding performance in the Premier League thus far this season.
He gave the example of Liverpool’s most recent match against Tottenham Hotspur, which was overshadowed by a number of contentious referee decisions. Alisson produced some incredible saves in that game, but despite his best efforts, the Reds were defeated.
Alisson, according to Earle, is currently “on top of his game” and has had a strong start to the Premier League season.
Alisson now ranks third in the Premier League for save percentage, only behind Robert Sanchez of Chelsea and Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham.
Earle played for Wimbledon and Port Vale throughout his playing career. He also represented Jamaica eight times, making one goal in those contests.
Right now, it would be difficult to think of a goalkeeper in international football who is better than Alisson. He can do it all; his shot-stopping is amazing, he commands respect in his domain, and his all-around play is excellent.
Only exceptional athletes like Thibaut Courtois, Gianluca Donnarumma, and Diogo Costa can compete with the abilities of Brazil’s top player. Even so, we believe Alisson to be the best of the bunch.
When Jurgen Klopp acquired him from Roma for a whopping £66.8 million transfer fee, eyebrows were raised. However, he has since proven himself to be well worth the Reds’ investment.
It’s unfortunate that Alisson’s performance against Spurs isn’t getting more notice, but it’s also not surprising considering the media frenzy surrounding the perplexing VAR judgments made by Darren England and Daniel Coote on that particular day.
