Following the VAR issue last week, Emile Heskey urged Liverpool to continue their season rather than request a replay against Tottenham Hotspur.
When the Reds visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium six days ago, Manchester City’s earlier blunder against Wolves gave them the chance to overtake them atop the Premier League standings.
Instead, they ended up in fourth position on the day, falling behind Spurs and Arsenal as the former defeated Jurgen Klopp’s team 2-1 after VAR erroneously overturned a Luis Diaz goal. With just under an hour left, it would have given the visitors the lead after Curtis Jones was sent off.
Following the incident, the club sought clarification, which led to PGMOL releasing the audio tapes of the conversations between the officials that led to their blunder and Klopp declaring he would be in favor of a replay.
The former Liverpool striker Heskey, who is currently only two points behind league leaders City, thinks it is preferable to look ahead rather than to wallow in the past.
He confessed as much in an interview with BoyleSports, which provides the most recent Premier League betting & odds: “I don’t think the Tottenham game should be repeated. Before VAR, we would simply accept terrible rulings and move on. That is now past. However, I would assert that there was a communication blunder in what transpired versus Tottenham.
Although VAR is there to draw your notice to things, human error still exists. The officials claimed that it was a goal, but communication wasn’t clear for some reason, at least in my opinion. Despite how upsetting the decision was, I don’t see the game being replayed because it was a human error.
Despite accepting the Reds’ first loss in all competitions since April 1, the 45-year-old couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if the right judgment had been made and Liverpool had taken a 1-0 lead.
