The former Liverpool defender discussed the incident from the previous weekend.Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, criticized the way Curtis Jones was dismissed after Simon Hooper was asked to investigate the collision with Tottenham.
On Saturday night, Jones was sent out for a foul on Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma, but before VAR stepped in, he had just been awarded a yellow card.Hooper was asked to walk to the pitch-side monitor to watch a replay of the tackle, but the referee only saw a partial picture of what happened, showing Jones’ foot on Bissouma’s ankle.Carragher acknowledged Jones’ plight during Monday Night Football and said he has a “big problem” with the manner Hooper was instructed to review thedecision.
“I have no issue with it being a red card, but I would have preferred to see it not be given,” said Carragher. “It’s not because I support Liverpool, but I always think as a referee, can you keep it 11 vs. 11 on the pitch.”
“My main issue was with the referee’s decision-making process and what he saw on the VAR monitor when he went to the monitor. I’ve been saying it for a while, but sometimes it seems like the referee will check the monitor to take a second look at an incident. He is being brought to the monitor to be shown the reasons why he made the error.
