Patrick Dorgu, a defender for Lecce, claims that Liverpool and Manchester City’s interest in him will offer him extra “motivation” to work hard.
The Premier League clubs were keeping an eye on the Danish Under-21 international when he made his professional debut at the beginning of the season. Dorgu responded as follows when asked by Ekstra Bladet (via Sport Witness) if he felt gratified by the links:
“I truly simply use it as inspiration that I am doing the right thing and must keep going when the major teams are watching me. Then it won’t be long before the larger teams start calling.
It does seem as though Dorgu is courting Liverpool’s interest, but it should be noted that the kid, who has been a Chelsea fan since he was eight, declared in the same interview that his “dream” is to play for the Blues.
There are currently no signs that Mauricio Pochettino’s team are interested in the left-back, but given their emphasis on acquiring young players, it’s possible that the teenager is also on their radar.
Prior to the Dane’s debut with the senior team in July, Dorgu’s agent, Kingsley Ogbodo, discussed the defender’s future. He acknowledged that the Reds, City, and Barcelona had all kept an eye on the prospect and that a bid from the Reds was quite likely:
They have not presented any official bids. Liverpool, however, has a great chance of doing so. They seem interested and like the player, but I have no idea if it will actually materialize.
On his first appearance in the Coppa Italia, Dorgu came on as a substitute and assisted Lecce’s winning goal. Since then, the 18-year-old has played in 5 league games, and he has never lost.
Therefore, it is inevitable that Liverpool will face increased opposition in the near future while trying to sign Dorgu.
