Liverpool supporters have been asked to focus less on the January transfer market and more on the squad that manager Jurgen Klopp has assembled for the 2023–24 season.
The Premier League’s Merseysiders defeated Wolves 3-1 in an exciting second half at Molineux, with both Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones savoring the moment with fans in the away end. Neil Jones’ remarks followed yet another impressive comeback in the league.
“I believe it’s critical for supporters to avoid being overly focused on January. I believe it is now time for Liverpool and the supporters to support this team.
I believe you can already tell that the supporters are paying attention to Jurgen and warming up to this team. That most definitely wasn’t the case last season when some players and some performances had fans sick to their stomachs.
“There’s something far more good developing, and I think it’s vital not to detract from that with this idea of ‘oh, we need to get rid of him and bring him in’ in January. Later on, be worried about it.
To put things in perspective, after a disastrous start in which we earned seven points out of a possible nine in our first three top-flight games, we were five points worse off at the same point of the season in 2022/23.
We agree that losing ourselves in the moment wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, despite reasonable reservations about our level of backline choices even months before the January window.
Especially not now, when you can see the momentum we’re building with a string of strong showings on the field.
