Due to the on-loan Liverpool defender’s early dismissal after 52 minutes, Billy Koumetio had a terrible start for USL Dunkerque.
The Frenchman, whose season-long temporary loan to Austria Vienna was ended midway through, signed with the Ligue 2 squad that had just been promoted late last month in the hopes that he would perform better than he had during his previous loan assignment.
Prior to the international break, the 20-year-old made his debut against Grenoble as a replacement against AC Ajaccio. In a back three, he started as the left-sided center-back.
His afternoon in the 52nd, however, came to an early end as he was issued cautions for late challenges high up the left side in both halves. Despite losing Koumetio, who will now miss Dunkerque’s encounter against Rodez AF on Saturday, the French squad nevertheless managed to draw 0-0. The draw puts them in the final relegation spot based on goal differential.
Tyler Morton and Nat Phillips both played their first professional games this past weekend, representing Hull City and Celtic, respectively. Not just Koumetio, a loanee from Liverpool, did this. After Morton was brought in shortly before the hour mark, his afternoon ended up being one to remember.
A late cross from the midfielder was headed in by Aaron Connolly to help the Tigers and Coventry City draw 1-1. Phillips competed against fellow Liverpool loanee Owen Beck when Celtic hosted Dundee. The center-back was switched at halftime, but the left-back played the complete 90 minutes as the Hoops won 3-0.
Jakub Ojrzynski was not used as a substitute as FC Den Bosch defeated MVV Maastricht 3-2 at home. Dominic Corness, who was also competing on the continent, entered the game in the 71st minute as Yverdon Sport drew the game at 1-1 with a late goal against FC Winterthur. Stalybridge Celtic won 4-0 over Witton Albion in the Northern Premier League thanks to a clean sheet from Luke Hewitson.
Calvin Ramsay, Rhys Williams, and James Balagizi did not play for Preston North End, Aberdeen, or Wigan Athletic, respectively. Anderson Arroyo, meantime, might play for FC Andorra on Monday night when they meet Real Oviedo.
