Football analyst Danny Murphy believes that Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi could end up being the ideal Jurgen Klopp replacement.
Since arriving at Anfield in 2015, Klopp, 56, has carved out a space for himself and changed the course of the team’s fortunes. Under the German, the Reds won the UEFA Champions League, all other domestic championships, and their first league championship in the Premier League era.
The Reds manager has coached the team in 435 games throughout all competitions, going 268–77 for victories. With Liverpool, Klopp just agreed to a new contract that will keep him with the team through 2026.The Premier League powerhouses haven’t quite begun to prepare for life without the German, but Murphy believes they may have found a suitable replacement in the 44-year-old De Zerbi.
Regarding Klopp, Murphy added that he doesn’t see the German departing the Reds anytime soon:
De Zerbi, who took over as manager at Brighton just last summer, has done a great job leading them to the continent for the first time.Despite offloading key players like Alexis Mac Alister and Moises Caicedo, who both won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Italian’s charges have had a successful season. The latter was sold to Chelsea for a record-breaking $115 million in British currency.
Brighton is now sixth in the standings after winning three of their first four league games.
Liverpool has had a strong start to the 2023–24 season, going 4-0 in league play. With 10 points, they are currently in third place, just two points behind league leaders and defending champions Manchester City.Initially, Klopp’s team battled to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea before defeating Bournemouth 3-1 with 10 men. Following another victory with 10 men, this one at Newcastle United by a score of 2-1, the Reds defeated Aston Villa by a score of 3-0 right before the international break.
On Saturday, September 16, Liverpool will play away at Wolverhampton Wanderers before beginning their UEFA Europa League campaign five days later against LASK in Austria.
