Journalist Dean Jones has provided his opinion to GIVEMESPORT on whether Liverpool should have accepted an offer to keep Mohamed Salah after interest from Saudi Arabia.
From a purely football standpoint, the Merseyside club’s loss of Salah would be disastrous. According to Transfermarkt, the former Chelsea winger has made 309 appearances for Liverpool and has tallied 188 goals and 81 assists. Offloading Salah would make it impossible for Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team to find a replacement now that the English transfer season has closed.
This hasn’t stopped Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League from putting Liverpool to the test. The Middle Eastern club is getting ready to make a record-breaking £200 million offer for Salah, according to The Telegraph.
Salah’s age makes it unlikely that Liverpool could ever be compensated £200 million for him. It could have been wise for Liverpool to capitalize on the changes in England brought about by Saudi Arabia and take a fresh turn. However, the Merseyside club has a difficult choice if they are unable to acquire a successor.
Jones thinks that because Liverpool has so many options up top, selling Salah and attempting to replace him in January wouldn’t have been the worst course of action. The journalist is aware that someone with connections to Liverpool might have slightly different views than his, though.
