Fluminense chairman Mario Bittencourt opened the door for Liverpool to sign midfielder Andre Trindade in January.
The 22-year-old was tipped to join the Reds as part of their midfield overhaul, which saw Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Leighton Clarkson leave completely.
Liverpool tried to sign Andre in the summer, but their attempts were rebuffed by Fluminense, who have the Brazilian under contract until December 2026. Instead, the Reds brought in a quartet of new pivots: Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, as well as Alexis Mac Allister, who also failed to recruit Jude Bellingham, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Szoboszlai and Mac Allister have already secured a regular place for the Reds, who took ten points from their opening four Premier League games in an impressive start to the season. However, the Reds also have Curtis Jones, Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott all struggling for minutes in the engine room, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has recently taken on a midfield role for England.
Andre’s move is therefore unlikely to be a priority this winter, especially given continued defensive concerns, but the 22-year-old has thrust himself into the spotlight thanks to his performance at Fluminense.
Primarily number six, André has scored four goals and three assists in 151 appearances for Fluminense across all tournaments, including one goal in 43 games in the 2023 season.
The midfielder’s only goal so far this season came in a Copa Libertadores quarter-final draw against Olimpia as Fluminense progressed to the semi-finals with a 5-1 aggregate win.
Andre also made his senior Brazil debut in a 4-2 friendly defeat by Senegal in June, and was called up by the Selecao for this month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
