The Merseyside club was left in a precarious situation last month when the Buckingham Group, the building firm responsible for the £80 million redevelopment of the Anfield Road End, filed a notice to appoint administrators. The Buckingham Group had encountered serious financial problems as a result of costs associated with a number of delayed projects.
The Buckingham Group decided to discontinue operations immediately, and employees were removed from all of its locations, including Anfield.
The Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool has now taken matters into their own hands and has formally ended its affiliation with Buckingham Group.
Liverpool has been talking to companies who could manage the last bit of work needed to finish the 61,000 plan. Small numbers of workers have returned to the site, and more activity is likely to be visible soon as the club nears an agreement with a company to handle the last stages of the redevelopment.
Fans will find this to be good news because the incomplete stand has negatively impacted their matchday experience thus far. This season’s Bournemouth and Aston Villa games have had smaller crowds than usual, and it’s possible that West Ham and Everton games will see a similar problem.
