In a battle against time to recruit Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich, Liverpool is under pressure to meet a deadline.
Before The Athletic announced that a $43 million (£34 million/€40 million) agreement had been reached, the club began transfer negotiations with the Bundesliga champion to acquire the midfielder on Thursday. Liverpool has fewer than 36 hours to complete the signing of the gifted Netherlands international before the transfer window closes on Friday.
The player will now travel for a physical. Gravenberch’s release from Bayern has been delayed throughout the summer due to a lack of interest, but he is finally permitted to depart provided that a suitable replacement can be found before the transfer window shuts. Liverpool is now under much more pressure to complete the hunt for Gravenberch’s availability for Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Aston Villa is even more competitive for the Reds.
Any deadline day signing must be registered by Friday at 12 p.m. UK time in order to be eligible to participate in the weekend’s games, per Premier League regulations.
Liverpool is aware that they only have a little window of time to negotiate with Bayern and complete Gravenberch’s trade before the Friday 12:00 deadline. Although it would seem like a difficult task, the Reds can yet reach the deadline.
Gravenberch would most likely be relegated to a substitute role at Anfield on Sunday even if they were to sign him in time. This is because of his limited playing time this season at Bayern and his unfamiliarity with his potential new teammates. Liverpool supporters may have to wait until after the September international break or until any other deadline to see the 21-year-old.
