The Times reports that West Ham United is considering acquiring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez before the transfer window closes on Friday (September 1).
After selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for a price of £105 million, West Ham had a busy summer in terms of transfers. James Ward-Prowse ($35 million), Mohammed Kudus ($38 million), Edson Alvarez ($35.4 million), and Konstantinos Mavropanos ($17 million) were all signed using money from sales.
The Hammers have decided to further strengthen their ranks before the transfer window closes on Friday (September 1). David Moyes’ club are considering signing centre-back Gomez from Liverpool, sources say. West Ham have been trying to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United all summer. The London outfit agreed a fee of £30m to sign him, but the move fell through after the centre-back demanded a hefty fee from the Red Devils. Although the Hammers have already signed Mavropanos, Moyes still seems keen to bring in a homegrown defender. That’s why Gomez is getting treatment at the London Stadium. How much they are willing to pay for English remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Gomez wants more playing time as he works to break into the England squad after not playing for England since October 2020. Prepare to move from Anfield to West Ham after Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip.
Gomez’s playing time at the club has recently been constrained, though, due to injuries and inconsistent play. He only started 15 Premier League games for the Merseyside team last season.
