“No One’s Safe This Season” — Reece Potter Says Kentucky’s Lineup Would Be ‘Banned’ in a Video Game for Being Too Stacked: “This Team’s So Loaded, It Should Be Illegal”

LEXINGTON, KY — August 4, 2025

Reece Potter isn’t holding back his excitement for what’s brewing in Lexington — and if his bold comments are anything to go by, this Kentucky team may already be terrifying its competition.

“This team’s so loaded, it should be illegal,” Potter said with a grin during a post-practice media session. “If we were in a video game, they’d have to ban us. Everyone would be a 99 overall — it just wouldn’t be fair.”

It might sound like a joke, but there’s some real weight behind the words. With a roster packed from top to bottom with elite recruits, returning stars, and relentless work ethic, Kentucky has quietly built one of the deepest and most dangerous teams in college basketball heading into the 2025–26 season.

Potter, now stepping into a more prominent role after showing flashes of his potential last year, says the energy around the program feels different this summer — not just because of the talent, but because of how hard everyone is working.

“It’s not just that we have the pieces,” he explained. “It’s how hard guys are going at each other in practice. Every drill feels like a fight. You mess around for one second and someone’s dunking on you. There’s no let-up.”

From versatile bigs to lights-out shooters and high-IQ guards, the Wildcats’ roster appears as well-balanced as it is explosive. And while national attention has begun to shift toward bluebloods like Duke, UConn, and Kansas, many within the Kentucky locker room believe this team could be the one to return UK to national championship glory.

Coach Mark Pope, entering a crucial year at the helm, has echoed Potter’s enthusiasm — though in more measured tones.

“We’ve got a great group of guys,” Pope said earlier this week. “But talent doesn’t win titles — cohesion, toughness, and accountability do. And that’s what we’re working on every single day.”

Still, it’s hard to ignore the buzz. NBA scouts have already started peeking into Kentucky practices, and fans are flooding social media with speculation over just how dominant this roster could become. Could this be a “super team” in the making?

According to Potter, the answer is clear.

“We’re not aiming to just compete,” he said. “We want to dominate. We want other teams to feel it the second they step on the court. This isn’t going to be one of those ‘wait and see’ seasons. We’re coming from game one.”

With the season still months away, much remains to be proven — but if the attitude inside the locker room mirrors the confidence Potter is showing publicly, one thing’s for sure:

Opponents better buckle up.

Because if Reece Potter’s right… no one’s safe this season.
