JUST IN: Mark Pope Breaks Silence on Otega Oweh’s Status – Confirms Return to Kentucky

Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope has officially addressed the swirling rumors surrounding Otega Oweh’s future with the program, ending weeks of speculation with a firm and confident statement.

Speaking at a press briefing earlier today, Pope assured fans and media that Oweh will remain with Kentucky for the upcoming season, putting to rest any doubts about the star player’s intentions.

“Yes, Otega is staying,” Pope said. “He’s committed, and he’s excited about what we’re building here. He believes in this program and wants to be a part of what comes next.”

Oweh, who transferred from Oklahoma, quickly made a name for himself in Lexington with his aggressive defense, dynamic athleticism, and improving offensive presence. His impact last season was significant, and his decision to stay provides a massive boost to a Wildcats team looking to reload and compete at the highest level under Pope’s leadership.

Rumors had circulated in recent weeks that Oweh was exploring other options, potentially considering a return to the transfer portal or even testing professional waters.

However, Pope’s clear and reassuring message dispels those notions, reaffirming Kentucky’s strong standing with its returning players.

“Otega wants to grow, and he knows he can do that here,” Pope continued. “We’ve had great conversations. He’s been in the gym, putting in work, and preparing to lead. He’s one of our core guys, and we’re thrilled to have him back.”

This announcement comes at a crucial time as Pope continues to reshape the program following the departure of legendary coach John Calipari. With several new recruits coming in and other key players still evaluating their futures, retaining Oweh is a major step in establishing stability and continuity.

For Big Blue Nation, Oweh’s return is more than just a roster move—it’s a signal that the players believe in Pope’s vision and that Kentucky remains a premier destination in college basketball.

Pope ended his remarks with a message to fans: “We’re building something special here, and Otega is a big part of that. We’re just getting started.”

With Oweh’s status now confirmed, the focus shifts to development, chemistry, and pushing Kentucky back to national prominence in the coming season.
