‘Otega OWEH’S BIG DECISION’ After Sweet 16 Elimination, Head coach Reacts to Star Players Bombshell Announcement.

Otega Oweh’s Big Decision

Over the next few weeks, Otega Oweh’s future will be the focus of much attention. After becoming Kentucky’s leading scorer in his first season under Coach Mark Pope, Oweh faces a pivotal offseason. He transferred from Oklahoma after two years and expanded his offensive skills at Kentucky, shifting from a defense-focused player to a versatile scorer. With one more year of NCAA eligibility, Oweh could return to Kentucky, which would be a key victory for Pope as he works to solidify the team’s core. However, Oweh’s decision remains uncertain.

The 6-foot-4 guard is expected to explore the NBA draft process. If he impresses scouts, he may choose to turn pro. The draft withdrawal deadline is May 28, and Oweh’s decision could come down to the wire. He’s currently ranked 86th on ESPN’s draft prospect list, below the 59-pick cutoff, which increases the likelihood of him returning to Kentucky.

Brandon Garrison’s Path Forward

Sophomore forward Brandon Garrison, another Kentucky player with eligibility remaining, also faces key choices. A former McDonald’s All-American, Garrison transferred from Oklahoma State and primarily served as backup to Amari Williams. While his time on the court has been inconsistent, he has shown flashes of talent, particularly with his passing and developing three-point shot, making him a solid fit for Pope’s offense.

Speculation is growing that Garrison might enter the transfer portal, though Kentucky staff believe he’s likely to return. He may also test the NBA draft waters to gather feedback from scouts. Regardless, Kentucky is bolstering its frontcourt with McDonald’s All-American Malachi Moreno and other additions from the transfer portal.

Collin Chandler’s Progress

Freshman guard Collin Chandler, a top-40 recruit, returned to basketball after a two-year church mission and has been gradually adjusting. He committed to Pope after the coach left BYU, and while his return was challenging, his recent performances — particularly in the NCAA Tournament — have shown promise. Despite persistent rumors of a transfer back to Utah, Chandler has spoken positively about Pope and the program, suggesting he will remain at Kentucky. With his engagement and sense of belonging in Lexington, Chandler seems likely to return next season.

Trent Noah and Travis Perry’s Development

Freshmen Trent Noah and Travis Perry also had an impact this season. Initially seen as depth players, both were called upon due to injuries. Noah, who switched from South Carolina to Kentucky after Pope’s hiring, and Perry, the lone holdover from John Calipari’s 2024 recruiting class, have praised the coaching staff for their development. Although playing time may remain scarce, both seem committed to staying for a second season.

Kentucky’s Future Roster

Looking ahead to 2025-26, Kentucky has already secured commitments from top recruits Jasper Johnson, Acaden Lewis, and Malachi Moreno, as well as Tulane transfer Kam Williams. Retaining key players like Oweh, Garrison, Chandler, Noah, and Perry would give Pope a strong foundation, but in the era of NIL deals and the transfer portal, continuity is never guaranteed.

In the weeks ahead, Kentucky’s offseason decisions will shape the team’s direction. Whether Pope can retain these core players or will need to rebuild remains a major question in the unpredictable world of college basketball.
