The New England Patriots are heading into the offseason with a pressing need for offensive weapons. While they have substantial cap space, there’s no guarantee top free agents will want to join the team.
As a result, they may need to explore the trade market, where several options could be available.
One player previously linked to New England is Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. Entering the final year of his contract, Metcalf could become a trade candidate. Lee Vowell of 12th Man Rising identified the Patriots as a potential destination for the star wideout. Vowell suggests Seattle might trade Metcalf to New England for a second-round pick and one of their two third-round picks.
“The Patriots hold one pick in each of the first two rounds and two in the third,” Vowell noted. “New England’s fourth overall pick will likely address offensive line needs, making it unlikely they’d part with a first-rounder. However, a second-rounder and a third-rounder could be Seattle’s best option in a trade.”
Adding Metcalf would significantly boost the Patriots’ offense, which lacks a true No. 1 receiver.
The 27-year-old receiver tallied 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns over 15 games in the 2024 season. Drafted out of Ole Miss in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Metcalf has earned two Pro Bowl selections and recorded three 1,000-yard seasons during his six-year career.
