Throughout the 2024 season, Bill Belichick had little positive to say about the New England Patriots. However, that changed on Monday when he praised new head coach Mike Vrabel.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Belichick shared his admiration for Vrabel:
“I think Mike’s done a fantastic job. His transition into coaching was no surprise to anyone who knew him. I coached him in New England, stayed in touch when he was at Ohio State, and followed his time with the Texans and then in Tennessee. We even practiced against his teams. I’ve remained very close with Mike and have immense respect for him. He prepares his teams well—they’re tough, competitive, smart, and excel in situational football—just like he was as a player.”
Vrabel was recently named head coach after the Patriots parted ways with Jerod Mayo following one season, and it’s clear Belichick supports the decision.
“Mike’s coaching style and the way he prepares his teams are reflective of how he played the game,” Belichick continued. “I love Mike. I respect everything he stands for as a coach and have no doubt he’ll do a great job.”
This glowing endorsement from Belichick, who has been reserved in his comments about the Patriots since his departure, marks a strong start for Vrabel in his new role.
