The New England Patriots have two games left in their 2024 NFL season. They’ll face the Los Angeles Chargers at home tomorrow, followed by another home game against the Buffalo Bills to close out the season.
If the Patriots lose both games, they would secure no worse than the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
They’ll also have significant cap space entering the offseason, creating an opportunity to make major improvements. While much of the focus has been on strengthening the wide receiver position and offensive line, addressing the pass rush should be a top priority.
Throughout the 2024 season, New England has struggled to consistently pressure quarterbacks. Adding a high-impact pass rusher will be crucial to improving their defense.
Here are three free-agent pass rushers the Patriots should target:
Chase Young (New Orleans Saints)
The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft could be a valuable addition to the Patriots’ defense. Young has had a solid season with the Saints, recording 27 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two defended passes in 15 games.
Although he hasn’t fully met the high expectations from his draft class, Young still has the potential to significantly improve New England’s pass rush if acquired at the right price.
Khalil Mack (Los Angeles Chargers)
A veteran presence like Khalil Mack could make a big difference for the Patriots. If the team believes it can contend in the next couple of years, signing Mack to a two-year deal would be a smart move.
Mack has delivered a strong season with the Chargers and proved last year that he remains an elite edge rusher. Adding him to the roster would give New England a reliable and experienced pass rusher.
