Speculation about Jerod Mayo’s future as head coach of the New England Patriots continues to swirl. While some believe the team might part ways with him after just one season, others think he is likely to return for the 2025 season.

When asked directly if team owner Robert Kraft had assured him of his position for next year, Mayo’s response raised eyebrows for its lack of clarity. As reported by Mark Daniels of MassLive, Mayo sidestepped the question entirely.
“My main focus has been really getting the team ready to play this week,” Mayo said. “I’m not going to get into all of that stuff. Look, here I go again dancing a little bit, but my focus is on the guys in this room, the coaches on this staff, and winning this game that we have coming up.”
While Mayo’s answer doesn’t offer much insight, his first season as head coach has drawn significant criticism. The team has often looked unprepared, and although the players share responsibility for that, Mayo hasn’t made a strong case with his own performance.
Additionally, his interactions with the media have been problematic at times, with comments that have occasionally shifted blame away from himself and toward his players.
Despite these issues, Kraft expressed strong confidence in Mayo when he hired him, which makes the prospect of firing him after just one year seem unlikely.
For now, the Patriots’ plans remain uncertain, but it appears more probable that Mayo will be given another chance in 2025 rather than being let go. Expect the speculation surrounding his future to continue until an official decision is made.
