CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns general manager Andrew Berry highlighted Kevin Stefanski’s inclusion in an elite group of coaches, having won the NFL Coach of the Year award twice.
“There are 13 coaches in NFL history who have won Coach of the Year multiple times,” Berry explained. “Of those, 10 have reached a Super Bowl or NFL Championship, six have won one, and seven are in the Hall of Fame. Stefanski is the second fastest to achieve this milestone.”
Historically, 13 coaches have earned multiple Coach of the Year honors. Ten of them have coached in a Super Bowl, with six winning the title. Including pre-Super Bowl NFL Championships, 11 have reached the championship game, and seven emerged victorious. Five of these coaches have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Ron Rivera, for example, led the Panthers to a league-best 15-1 record in 2015, becoming one of only seven teams to win 15 regular season games since the NFL expanded to 16 games in 1978. That season, Carolina also became the 11th team to feature a Coach of the Year (Rivera) and NFL MVP (Cam Newton) in the same year, though they fell to Denver in Super Bowl 50.
As for Stefanski, he was named Coach of the Year in 2020 and 2023, guiding the Browns to 11 wins and playoff appearances in both seasons.
With a career record of 40-38 through Week 12 this season, Stefanski ranks fifth in franchise history for regular-season wins. Just five more victories would move him past Marty Schottenheimer (44 wins) into fourth place.
