Supporting the development of quarterback Drake Maye will be a top priority, and securing a true No. 1 receiver is seen as a critical need.
Throughout the season, the Patriots have been linked to potential long-term wide receiver targets. NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently highlighted two intriguing trade options: Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, both nearing the end of their rookie contracts.
Of the two, Wilson is considered the more dynamic talent. The New York Jets receiver has shown flashes of superstar potential but hasn’t fully lived up to expectations.
With the Jets recently acquiring Davante Adams, committing to a lucrative contract for Wilson may not fit within their budget. If that’s the case, the Patriots could explore a blockbuster trade for the young wideout.
At just 24 years old, Wilson would be an ideal long-term fit in New England, with the potential to grow alongside Maye. So far in the 2024 season, Wilson has played 11 games, recording 69 receptions for 722 yards and five touchdowns—exactly the type of production the Patriots need.
However, a trade between the Patriots and Jets is unlikely, given their rivalry. While Wilson’s name has surfaced as a potential option, fans shouldn’t expect New England to land him this offseason.
Still, the possibility of the Patriots pursuing such a deal remains an intriguing storyline to watch.
