Patriots defensive back Jabrill Peppers has returned to the team after spending most of the season on the commissioner’s exempt list.
He was placed on the list following charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation or suffocation, possession of cocaine, and assault and battery on a family or household member.
Although Peppers faces a criminal trial in 2025 and a possible NFL suspension, he shared his gratitude for being back on the field.
“I’m extremely thankful,” Peppers said via MassLive.com. “It’s Thanksgiving, and there’s a lot to be grateful for. I’m just happy to be around the guys, back in the building, and doing what I love.”
Typically, players remain on the commissioner’s exempt list until their legal matters are resolved. The NFL has not explained why Peppers was reinstated, and when asked for details, he declined to comment. “I’m not at liberty to discuss any details. I’m just thankful the league allowed me to get back to doing what I love. I’ll let the legal process play out,” he said.
Peppers’ trial won’t take place until 2025, but he is eligible to play for the Patriots this Sunday against the Colts.
