‘Things get worse’ Despite Disappointing Loss to Packers, Star Player Goes Down Unnoticed Alongside Defensive Star.

Brandon Allen, the 49ers’ backup quarterback, played Sunday’s game against the Packers with a previously unnoticed broken finger on his non-throwing hand.

The injury, sustained weeks ago during practice from a hard snap, was revealed by Fox sideline reporter Tom Rinaldi when Allen took the field wearing a brace on the middle finger of his left hand.

Despite the injury, Allen insisted it had no impact on his performance, saying, “Nah. None at all,” according to David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. In the game, Allen threw for 199 yards and a touchdown, completing 17 of 29 passes, but also had two turnovers—a fumble and an interception.

When questioned about starting Allen over Joshua Dobbs despite the injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan dismissed concerns, stating, “He’s not hurt. He’s fine. He hurt his finger like three weeks ago.” Shanahan added that Allen made some key throws but also noted mistakes, including slipping on the field twice, which proved costly.

The game marked Allen’s 10th career start and his first since 2021. He stepped in for Brock Purdy, who was sidelined with right shoulder soreness.

The team is optimistic about Purdy’s return next week, with further updates expected Monday.
