The Cleveland Browns are riding high after their surprising Thursday night victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
However, at 3-8, the team still faces significant challenges, particularly at the quarterback position. Currently relying on Jameis Winston, the Browns may need to explore other options.
Winston’s performance against Pittsburgh, where he completed 18 of 27 passes for 219 yards and an interception, highlighted his inconsistency through four starts.
This raises the question: Should Cleveland consider bringing in competition for Winston? Specifically, could recently released quarterback Daniel Jones, formerly of the New York Giants, be an option?
When asked about the possibility of signing Jones, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski declined to comment, according to Fred Greetham of 247 Sports.
While Jones is unlikely to be a long-term solution for Cleveland, it’s worth noting that Winston, now 30 years old, may not be either.
Drafting a quarterback in April seems like the more viable strategy for the Browns, though their win over Pittsburgh may have hurt their draft positioning.
Would giving Jones a shot for the remainder of the 2024 season be worthwhile? Probably not.
A better move might be to evaluate rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who, despite his lack of experience, could have untapped potential that the team has yet to uncover.
While Jones is likely to find a role as a backup elsewhere, the Browns don’t appear to be the ideal destination for the former Duke quarterback.
