Big Return: Surprise injury updates give Packers an edge against Bears in big rivalry week

The Green Bay Packers appear to be making the most of their bye week.

As they returned to practice, nearly every player on their 53-man roster was available to some extent, with the only absence being defensive lineman Colby Wooden.

Several players were limited in practice, including cornerback Jaire Alexander (knee), defensive tackle Kenny Clark (toe), running backs Josh Jacobs (quadricep) and MarShawn Lloyd (ankle/hamstring), center Josh Myers (wrist), and safety Evan Williams (hamstring).

They’ve begun preparing for the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears, while the Packers still have an open roster spot after trading Preston Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers before the deadline.

Three players who missed the Week 9 game against the Detroit Lions due to injury—Jaire Alexander (knee), Evan Williams (hamstring), and Josh Myers (wrist)—have returned. Head coach Matt LaFleur indicated Monday that the team is hopeful they’ll be ready to play against the Bears.

Rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd also returned to practice as his 21-day window to return from injured reserve opened. This doesn’t guarantee he’ll play against the Bears, but it’s possible.

The Packers haven’t yet decided how to fill the open roster spot. Options include activating Lloyd, promoting a practice squad player, signing a free agent, or keeping it open until Lloyd is fully ready to play.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears are facing more injury challenges. Head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that safety Jaquan Brisker, who suffered a concussion in Week 5 on October 6—his third in the NFL—will remain out this week.

Additionally, left guard Teven Jenkins (ankle) and edge rusher Montez Sweat (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. However, left tackle Braxton Jones and right tackle Darnell Wright were back in practice.
