‘Has to be the worst trade’ NFL hits Browns star with bad news at the worst possible time

Cleveland Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, sidelining him for at least four games.

Unfortunately, that’s not the only setback the star linebacker faced.

The NFL fined Owusu-Koramoah $11,817 for a play in the recent win over the Baltimore Ravens, where no flag was thrown. Early in the third quarter, he tackled Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, using a leg kick—a move that will now cost him over $10,000.

Owusu-Koramoah wasn’t the only Browns player penalized.

Backup linebacker Mohamoud Diabate was fined $5,130 for a facemask penalty, and cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. was fined $8,012 for unnecessary roughness due to a hip-drop tackle, both occurring in the third quarter.

Before exiting with a neck injury that required immobilization and a hospital visit, Owusu-Koramoah had recorded seven tackles against the Ravens.

The injury ruled him out for Week 9 against the Chargers and is expected to keep him off the field for a month.

This season, the Pro Bowl linebacker has amassed 60 tackles, three sacks, and an interception, remaining a key force in Cleveland’s defense.

The Browns will feel his absence, as he was on track for a second straight Pro Bowl before the injury. It’s been a tough stretch for Owusu-Koramoah, who now faces both lost time and a hefty fine.
