Just days after ESPN reported that Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams faces a two-game suspension for allegedly testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, he practiced on Wednesday as Detroit prepares to host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The NFL has yet to officially confirm his suspension.
“I’m not supposed to really talk about it,” said Lions coach Dan Campbell on Wednesday, as Williams can continue participating in team activities while the appeal window for PED bans remains open. “He’s here. He’s helping,” Campbell added.
The coach expressed confidence in Williams, emphasizing that he would have a role upon his return. “I trust this kid,” Campbell stated. “Unfortunately, you have to face the consequences. If this suspension is confirmed, so be it. But I know he has the potential to bounce back. The support is there, and he’ll be fine. He’s part of this team, and I trust him.”
At 23 years old, Williams previously served a four-game suspension in 2023 for using a mobile device to bet on non-NFL games while at a team facility. His original six-game gambling suspension was reduced to four due to a league rule change.
On Monday, Williams appeared to acknowledge the latest suspension to ESPN, stating, “I have no choice but to take it on the chin. I’m in good spirits and just ready to get back with my brothers ASAP,” in a text message.
This season, Williams has recorded 17 receptions for 361 yards and three touchdowns over six games, four of which were starts.
