When Caitlin Clark liked Taylor Swift’s viral Instagram post endorsing Kamala Harris for U.S. President, many assumed that Clark was also supporting the Democratic candidate.
However, Clark has clarified her position regarding whether she supports Harris or Donald Trump. Before the Fever’s game against the Aces on Wednesday, Clark stated that her intention in liking Swift’s post was not to endorse Harris but to encourage U.S. citizens to make informed voting decisions.
“I have this amazing platform, and I think the most important thing I can do is encourage people to register to vote,” Clark said, according to Christine Brennan of USA Today.
“This is my second time voting in an election, and I believe that encouraging voter registration is the biggest contribution I can make with my platform. It’s the same approach Taylor [Swift] took. I recommend that everyone educate themselves about the candidates and their policies. That’s the most valuable action you can take, and that’s what I would advise anyone with the opportunity to vote in our country to do.”
Clark’s perspective mirrors that of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who also emphasized using his platform to encourage voter participation rather than endorsing a specific presidential candidate.
On the court, Clark’s team, the Fever, came into their game against the Aces with a strong 6-2 record in their last eight games, aiming to gain momentum for the playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost 86-75 to the reigning two-time WNBA champions.
The Fever will face the Aces again on Friday before wrapping up their regular season with games against the Wings and Mystics. The WNBA playoffs are set to begin on September 22.
