The Green Bay Packers seemed to start their 2024 season with a touchdown. On their opening drive against the Eagles on Friday, Jordan Love connected with Jayden Reed for a 38-yard scoring play. Love made a precise throw, and Reed executed a remarkable move to break free from a tackle and reach the end zone.
This was exactly the kind of play the Packers hoped to see when they extended Love’s contract this offseason.
However, there was a hitch—the play was nullified due to offsetting penalties since both teams had 12 players on the field for the snap.
It’s the first game of the season, so some rust and communication issues are expected. Although penalties for having 12 men on the field can happen occasionally, it’s unusual for both teams to commit such infractions on the same play, especially when it cancels out a potential highlight-reel touchdown.
Perhaps the Friday night kickoff still had everyone in preseason mode.
