The Green Bay Packers released their first injury report of the 2024 season, revealing that five players are nursing injuries ahead of their matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Running back MarShawn Lloyd missed Tuesday’s practice due to a hamstring injury, while wide receiver Romeo Doubs was limited in practice because of a hand injury. Also on the injury report are linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (limited, hip), cornerback Carrington Valentine (limited, hamstring), and running back Emanuel Wilson (limited, hip).
Packers fans are particularly concerned about Doubs, as he’s one of the team’s top wide receivers alongside Christian Watson. Doubs commented on his injury, saying, “It was a contusion on my hand and taking some time to heal and it is a day-to-day process. …I was able to function (in practice) the way I’m supposed to,” per Rob Demovsky of ESPN. Doubs aims to build on a solid 2023 season, where he caught 59 passes for 674 yards and eight touchdowns. He also excelled in the playoffs, recording 10 receptions for 234 yards and a touchdown in two games. Lloyd, a crucial backup for Josh Jacobs, is also expected to play despite not practicing on Tuesday, as head coach Matt LaFleur indicated they planned to rest him after “two good days” of practice.
Lloyd, drafted in the third round this year, played college football at USC, where he rushed for 820 yards and nine touchdowns on 116 carries last season. Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich expressed eagerness to utilize Lloyd’s unique skill set, noting that his speed adds a different dynamic compared to AJ Dillon. Stenavich said, “He’s not quite the bruiser that (Dillon) is obviously, but he’s got a different type of skill set. So it’ll be nice to get him the ball in space and just see what he can do because I think he’s gonna add a good explosive element to the offense as well.”
The Packers are aiming to advance further this season after reaching the divisional round of the playoffs last year. Quarterback Jordan Love, who signed a four-year, $220 million extension in July, will lead the team.
