The new england patriots are now in the midst of a franchise-changing offseason.
They have hired a new head coach, restructured their front office, and are expected to restructure their roster from the top down. free agency will be a vital component of this process. And while adding external players to the mix would unquestionably happen, there are also quite a few in-house free agents to be taken care of. 24 people are expected to enter the open market this spring and are in need of a new deal.
Cody davis is one of those 24 players in our free agency profile series.experience after a fruitful collegiate career with texas tech, davis was signed by the st. louis rams in 2013 as an undrafted free agent.
Davis re-signed with the rams on a two-year deal in 2016 and played 26 percent of the team’s defensive snaps, including his first interception, and 90 percent of their special teams snaps the following season. He played 59 percent of the team’s defensive snaps and a career-low 53 percent on special teams. He set career records in tackles (22) and pass deflections (4). Davis left la in free agency and signed with the jacksonville jaguars for two seasons despite his increased defensive role.
He played just 78 defensive snaps in two seasons, and it was there that he took on a pure specialist role. When he signed with new england in 2020, his role remained. Davis only played one defensive snap for the patriots during the regular season, becoming a regular on the team.
