It’s been over three years since ‘the last dance’ first appeared on streaming services for basketball fans around the world. The boston celtics are apparently planning a sequel for the series in their own form, which will cover their run in the 2023-24 season. “nothing to officially announce yet, but we are in production on a multi-part, absolutely top-quality fantastic documentary series similar to, say, ‘the last dance,’” celtics owner wyc grousbeck reported via justin turpin. “we’re deep into it….
We have signed deals. The celtics are being shot, archives are being shredded, and it’s in progress,” grousbeck says, adding that the film will be released regardless of whether or not they win the championship. Although he compared the project to “the last dance,” the celtics will be just one of a slew of boston-themed sports teams to be featured in a new documentary, which already includes the red sox and the new england patriots. So far, the celtics’ response has been mixed, with many saying that they haven’t done enough to merit a season-long documentary.
Others agree that it’s a good way to get a closer look at this celtics squad and see what kind of skills are required for a championship team to thrive. There hasn’t been any evidence that the scheme has been a distraction for the celtics so far, and their record this season has been nothing but dominance. The jury is out on the cs’ ability to win it all and if they can go out of their way to win the championship and return to the city.
Regardless of how the general public feels, the celtics believe something special is happening and they wanted to be sure to capture it while still having the opportunity. Can the celtics win a championship this season? The original “last dance” documentary chronicled the 1998 chicago bulls, the last standing of the nba’s greatest dynasty. At the time, they were already 5x champions and had a legend in michael jordan, who many consider (and still consider) to be the greatest player of all time. The bulls won the championship that season, and their dynasty came to an end, all while the cameras caught it all from behind the scenes.
