When asked about Tomlin’s coaching legacy and potential areas for improvement, Ward gave an honest but respectful answer.
“Pittsburgh’s standard is to win a Super Bowl. we are very happy Our organization has won six Super Bowls. He’s tied with the New England Patriots, but we haven’t won in a while, so maybe [Mike Tomlin] has that one thing off his shelf of great accomplishments and can bring a Super Bowl back to the city of Pittsburgh.For Steelers fans, Ward’s vision is a reminder of the lofty ambitions ingrained in the franchise’s culture. Tomlin’s tenure has been one of consistent success, including numerous playoff appearances and division titles, but chasing another Lombardi Trophy remains the ultimate goal.In his 17 seasons as the Steelers’ head coach, Tomlin never had a losing season.
That doesn’t happen in a league as dominant and competitive as the NFL. Despite Tomlin’s regular season success, the Steelers have not won a playoff game since the 2016 season. Steelers fans are tired of losing seasons and want to get back to the Super Bowls.Despite speculation that Ward would join the coaching staff, the Steelers chose a different direction. However, Ward’s continued support for his former team was evident as he proudly displayed both of his Super Bowl rings at the Legends party where the interview took place.Ward couldn’t help but joke about his new love for the vibrant Las Vegas lifestyle, joking that he hasn’t slept a wink since arriving.
Despite being sleep-deprived, Ward was in good spirits and seemed to enjoy talking to the media about his former team.Ward’s legacy with the Steelers goes beyond statistics. During his incredible 14-season career, he etched his name in franchise history amassing over 1,000 receptions, 12,083 receiving yards and 86 touchdowns. His impact went beyond mere numbers and embodied the relentless work ethic and determination that is synonymous with Steelers football. Although he has yet to be elected to the Hall of Fame, Ward’s stats and all that he has done for football cannot be overlooked.
A four-time Pro Bowler, Ward’s consistent prowess on the field reflected the team’s ethos of grit and determination. His contributions played an important role in two superb victories and not only helped assure the championship when winning Super Bowl XL, but they also won the famous Super Bowl MVP award.Without contributions to Ward’s team, Steelers would not have recorded these two championships. That doesn’t mean they can’t win without him, but his absence certainly makes the journey that much more difficult. Ward truly embodied the essence of steel and put the team above all else.

However, if they want to win a Super Bowl title in 2024, they will need to continue to manage their roster.
