New England Patriots to Part Ways with QB Mac Jones, ‘Good Chance He Ends Up Elsewhere’

Going into next season, the new england patriots, one of the most successful nfl franchises to ever grace the gridiron, will undergo dramatic changes.

After 24 seasons, the team dissolved with six-time super bowl champion bill Belichick, who named linebacker coach Jerod Mayo as his replacement. New england is continuing to restructure their coaching staff, bringing in two new coordinators, but it is expected that the change would also impact the finished product on the field.

New england is expected to trade quarterback mac jones this offseason when trying to take a quarterback during the forthcoming NFL draft, according to nfl insider tom Pelissero on sunday morning’s appearance on NFL gameday. Alex van pelt was named as the new england patriots’ next offensive coordinator earlier this month. Van pelt played for the cleveland browns from 2020 to 2022.

Last season, the browns averaged 23.3 points per game, the 10th-best rate in the nfl. He had previously worked with the buffalo bills, tampa bay buccaneers, green bay packers, and cincinnati bengals as the quarterbacks coach, most notably working with aaron rodgers from 2014 to 2017.

Pelissero continued, “caleb williams goes one and one of the two quarterbacks goes number two; the patriots will stand in and take a third quarterback at number three, or they could be the team that potentially trades out.” In bill belichick’s last game, mac jones, who lost his starting job this season, was demoted all the way to third-string.

In the coming weeks, a potential trader will be announced. There’s a good chance he ends up somewhere else.

New England Patriots: Eyeing Quarterback at Number Three

With former usc trojans standout quarterback caleb williams a virtual certainty to finish first in the 2024 NFL draft, the new england patriots could have their choice of north carolina’s drake maye or michigan wolverines gunslinger j.j. mccarthy as the third overall pick.

During his final two seasons at chapel hill, maye, who is primarily regarded as the second-best incoming quarterback behind williams, threw for 62 touchdowns against 16 picks.

He also ran for 16 goals. McCarthy led michigan to a championship in 2023 by throwing for 22 touchdowns and completing 72% of his passes. Pelissero also suggested that new england could trade out of the third overall pick, but that wouldn’t change the team’s fate. Jones, the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, threw ten touchdowns to 12 picks this season. As a rookie, he was a pro-bowler, throwing 22 touchdowns to 13 picks and leading his team to the playoffs.
