The pittsburgh steelers have already put a lot of work into their offensive line prospects in the 2024 NFL draft, which could help the team to solidify their offensive line after years of subpar play up front.
Amarius mims is being selected in the first round by nfl.com, and it’s a loaded offensive tackle class. Espn’s matt miller agrees with them, claiming that joining the mims and the steelers is a natural match.
They aren’t the first to do so. Daniel jeremiah led the team to mims in the first round just weeks earlier, and it makes sense to try to bolster the offensive line when it seems to be rounding the corner, except for two spots.
Given the steelers’ love of signing players from highly successful universities, darnell washington, george pickens, and broderick jones are already on the team. if this pick happens, the steelers will rebuild their offensive line, ideally once and for all. It would provide some much-needed protection to whoever plays quarterback, and although mims does not have a ton of tape on him, mainly due to injuries, the tape out there is impressive. And he would already have some built-in chemistry with the group.
What stands out about mims so much? He is a high-end performer with beautiful footwork and the ability to go out in space and work. Honestly, mims’ tape is a little bit more polished than you would expect from jones, especially considering her college experience.
It’s not a slam dunk pick, but in most years, a guy like mims would not make it to the 20th place. It’s possible this year because it is so deep and has top talent at other positions, like wide receiver and cornerback. It would be a great pick for the steelers, who have a great lineup.
