Former new england patriots coach bill Belichick took a full-page ad out in sunday’s boston globe to thank supporters for supporting the team during his 24-year tenure. After a 4-13 record, new england’s third losing season in four years since tom brady’s departure in 2020.

After a 4-13 record, new england’s third losing campaign in four years since tom brady’s departure in 2020, the patriots and belichick parted ways last month.
Although belichick’s name was used to honor his legacy, owner robert kraft decided to separate from his longtime coach and hire jerrod mayo to replace him, allowing him to play on the nfl sidelines for the first time since 1974. It’s easy to imagine that belichick has been reduced to a coach entirely. If belichick decides to take a one-year break from football, he’ll be the most decorated coach in the league.
He won a record six super bowls and three more as part of a string of afc east championships.
Don shula (347) has recorded more victories as a head coach than Belichick (333), including in the playoffs.
It’s unclear if shula’s passing has any significance to Belichick, who would often spend his press conferences focusing on whatever opponent was in front of him that week rather than on his legacy.
Mayo will be tasked with taking over for a legend while simultaneously confronting the failures of a man who was well beyond his prime as a talent evaluator.
The patriots have arguably the worst offensive lineup in the entire NFL, with no pro Bowl-caliber players at any skill position and possibly the league’s worst quarterback room with mac jones and bailey Zappe. It’s true that Belichick had to work harder to build a roster after brady’s departure, but it’s also fair to all parties to acknowledge their unmatched run of success.
