After much delay, Fans are pleased as Head coach Matt laFleur hints strongly on offensive coordinator.
Although it was speculated that Ejiro Evero would take a head coaching job or remain with the carolina panthers as the defensive coordinator on dave canales’ new staff, new research from si.com indicates that evero — a potential top candidate for matt lafleur — could still be in contention for both the green bay packers and los angeles rams.
Evero is expected to make $3 million per year as the panthers’ coordinator in 2024, but he would be “at or near the top” of a candidate list for both the packers and rams, and a chance to coordinate defenses for either the packers or rams could improve evero’s odds of becoming a head coach. Evero has been refusing interviews with the panthers, and the team expects him to return to lead the defense for canales, a first-time head coach. evero, who was a defensive quality control assistant in green bay under dom capers in 2016, met with lafleur during the 2021 recruiting cycle.
Joe barry was the packers’ quarterback, while evero was promoted to los angeles, won a super bowl, and later helped coordinate the denver broncos’ defense in 2022 and the panthers’ defense in 2023. Evero placed in the top ten for yards allowed by the broncos and panthers. Barry was fired by the packers last week after three years as the coordinator.
Evero spent five years with the rams, including four as the safeties coach (2017-20) and the fifth as the secondary coach and passing game coordinator. In los angeles, he worked under wade phillips and brandon staley. Coach vic fangio was evero’s first influence in the NFL.
Evero follows a similar route, with the possibility of transitioning away from barry in 2024 and beyond.
During the regular season, lafleur said evero follows a “really good strategy” and did a “hell of a job” with the broncos and panthers. “he’s a great communicator, he’s demanding, he holds guys accountable,” he says. Before playing the panthers, lafleur said in december that i’ve just got a ton of admiration for what he’s been able to accomplish.
