“It was maybe too soon” – Virgil van Dijk not happy with timing of Liverpool star’s recent comments

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has expressed his displeasure with teammate Jarrell Quansa’s recent comments.

The 20-year-old said he wants to replace Joel Matip after the Cameroonian suffered a season-ending injury in early December.

Van Dijk said of the remarks: “I think they were a little inappropriate. For me, I’m glad he thinks so. But it’s too early to say how that happened [after Matip’s injury]. I don’t think he meant it that way. “You could say it was a little different when I was in my 20s.

I totally understand where he’s coming from. “But we cannot forget what Joel has done for this club and the contribution he has made to the success we have achieved.”This comes after Quansa expressed interest in replacing Matip in the starting lineup due to injury.

He told LFCTV after Liverpool lost 2-1 to Union Saint-Gilloise in the UEFA Champions League:…It’s a shame what happened to Joel (Matip) and my condolences to him. But my idea was to beat him and become the starting centre-back in the Premier League.

“The 20-year-old has performed well for Liverpool this season due to injuries to Matip and Ibrahim Konate. He scored once and set up two more goals in 15 appearances in all competitions.
