Liverpool are set to secure a crowd against Manchester United as the Anfield deal is completed.
Liverpool are expecting a crowd of 57,000 for Sunday’s crucial game against Manchester United at Anfield.
This is thanks to the new Anfield Road stand, which will receive safety certification this week. A test event is scheduled for Monday night, with more than 7,500 fans expected to attend. The remaining work, including 2,000 accommodation units and minor adjustments to the lower levels, will be completed next month, bringing capacity to 61,000.The £80 million upgrade was due to be completed by the start of the season. But the delays were further complicated by the bankruptcy of contractor Buckingham Group. This led to the lower level, gradually reopening in current use. Paul Cuttill, VP of Stadium Operations, said: “It was really difficult. Our priority was to get fans back into the stadium as quickly and safely as possible.
Billy (CEO Hogan) said last October that the opening could be in 2024, so getting ahead of the United game is a bit of an early Christmas present. “It took so long.”Getting people in early has been a big advantage for us, but we won’t know the true nature of the costs until we have a good schedule by the end of the season.”
