Former Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant believes Liverpool need two more signings to complete Jurgen Klopp’s rebuild.Klopp and new sporting director Jörg Schmatke oversaw a major overhaul in the summer, leaving behind a number of high-profile players at Anfield. Captain Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out. This means the Reds have focused on rebuilding their midfield during the transfer window. And despite using four midfielders, Endo is alone.
A natural defensive midfielder, he was used more as a box-to-box all-rounder at Stuttgart. Liverpool, short of quality players, have been heavily linked with Fluminense’s Andre in recent months, but recent reports suggest they have lost interest. But former Red Jermain Pennant believes Liverpool are right to sign Andre and Lloyd Kelly as left-back defensive options.
They have successfully done so by signing Alexis McAlister, Dominic Soboslay, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenbirch. Fabrizio Romano also reported at the time that Klopp and his partners were looking for a young left-handed centre-back to replace Virgil van Dijk in the future, but a move has not materialised.
