Liverpool are enjoying a successful season under manager Jurgen Klopp, who underwent a summer overhaul after missing out on Champions League qualification last season. Jurgen Klopp is reaping the benefits of a dressing room full of national team captains as he bids to get Liverpool back into the top four.
The Reds had a poor season last year, finishing 5th and missing out on the Champions League spot. In response, Klopp made drastic changes in the summer and continued to add players.Captain Jordan Henderson, vice-captain James Milner and senior star Fabinho have left Anfield for pastures new. Klopp brought in a number of young stars to replace them and decided to form a new management team within his squad.
Virgil van Dijk was named captain and Trent Alexander-Arnold will serve as vice-captain of the Dutch national team. But the Dutchman is not the only international captain in the Liverpool dressing room. Andy Robertson (Scotland) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt) joined before the summer, while Dominic Szoboszlai (Hungary) and Wataru Endo (Japan) joined ahead of the new season. And Klopp admitted he is making the most of a team full of leadership.
This is something that works very well when United are enjoying a successful campaign, especially Virgilia. He has been part of the management team for the past few years, but is also enjoying his new role. Trent is growing on him. Robo, same thing. A good leader is only as good as the team he leads and the players really like him.“The new guys have influence, but they don’t want to influence everyone around them to fit into the club.
I am very happy about it. “International captains are different anyway, but it’s good to have them.”Klopp is also delighted that the current squad is continuing the tradition of solving problems themselves rather than bringing them on themselves. The German praised the culture created at Anfield, saying it was key to their success.
