‘Start Oweh Now!’ – Fans Go Wild After Breakout Performance in Kentucky’s Scrimmage Win!

Mark Pope’s Practice Wasn’t Just Some Joke — Kentucky Looks Ready for War

When Mark Pope said practices were going to be intense, competitive, and unforgiving, he wasn’t exaggerating. After weeks of closed-door training sessions and cryptic coach speak, Kentucky fans finally got a glimpse of what this new-look Wildcats squad is about during their scrimmage win over LA Familia — and one name stole the spotlight: Ortega Oweh.

If this was supposed to be a warm-up game, someone forgot to tell Oweh. The sophomore didn’t just show up — he took over. Whether it was attacking off the dribble, knocking down shots, or locking in on defense, he looked like a player with something to prove. By the time the final buzzer sounded, fans weren’t just impressed — they were demanding change.

> “START OWEH NOW!” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“He was the best player on the court. It’s not even close,” another echoed.

Oweh’s energy was infectious, and his chemistry with teammates stood out in a scrimmage that felt more like a high-stakes battle than a glorified practice. His performance was so commanding that it sparked immediate debate online: Should he start? Is he already a key piece in Pope’s system? And what does this mean for some of the returning guards?

Meanwhile, former Florida guard Denzel Aberdeen lit up the court from deep, draining several threes that kept the Wildcats ahead. Trent Noah also found his stroke, hitting timely buckets from beyond the arc and energizing the bench. But it wasn’t just a perimeter show — Jaland Lowe looked smooth and confident running the offense, while Mouhamed Dioubate showed flashes of hustle and physicality in the paint.

However, not everything went unnoticed. Two big names — Jayden Quaintance and Collin Chandler — spent the entire scrimmage on the bench, which raised a few eyebrows. Whether it was a strategic decision, minor injury, or just part of Pope’s rotational experimentation, fans were quick to react:

> “Why is Chandler not playing? We need answers,” one fan commented.

“Quaintance was the biggest name in the class, and he sat the whole game?”

But Pope didn’t seem rattled. In his postgame remarks, he hinted that this scrimmage was more about evaluating combinations, effort, and buy-in than just showing off individual talent.

> “We’re building a culture that rewards toughness, unselfishness, and execution. Every guy has to earn it,” Pope said. “Oweh stepped up today. And that’s what we expect from this group.”

While Kentucky only won the game by six points, the score almost felt irrelevant. What mattered most was the attitude, the effort, and the raw flashes of a team still coming together — and already showing signs of firepower.

If this scrimmage was any indication, Pope’s practices have forged a team that’s hungry, competitive, and loaded with upside. And if Ortega Oweh keeps playing like this, the starting lineup might not be as settled as some thought.

The next game can’t come soon enough — because one thing is clear:

Kentucky has found something special.

And Big Blue Nation is officially buzzing.
