UPDATE: “Too Little Too Late? Brea and Oweh Light Up G League Camp

UPDATE: “Too Little Too Late? Brea and Oweh Light Up G League Camp But Face Harsh Reality at NBA Combine — Scouts Intrigued, But Red Flags Linger”

Koby Brea and Otega Oweh have made waves in recent days, transforming from under-the-radar prospects to intriguing NBA hopefuls seemingly overnight. Their standout performances at the G League Elite Camp earned them well-deserved invitations to the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, a rare and coveted opportunity for players not originally invited to the main event. But as the excitement builds, so do the questions — and the reality may not be as promising as the highlights suggest.

At first glance, it looked like a feel-good story. Brea, a sharpshooting guard, and Oweh, a dynamic, high-motor wing, were praised for their performances during the G League scrimmages. Their athleticism, energy, and improved decision-making caught the attention of scouts and media alike. Some even floated the possibility of one or both sneaking into the late second round of the NBA Draft.

But behind the excitement lies a growing sense of caution — and even skepticism — among scouts and front-office insiders. According to multiple sources, both players are now facing tougher evaluations at the Combine, where the competition is stiffer, the pace is faster, and weaknesses are harder to hide.

Some scouts reportedly admire Brea’s shooting stroke but question his ability to create separation against elite defenders. Others are intrigued by Oweh’s athleticism but worry about his polish and consistency in half-court sets. One executive put it bluntly: “They have the tools, but tools don’t always build you a roster spot.”

Even more pressing are the concerns regarding their draft timeline. Rumors have surfaced suggesting potential confusion or mishandling of eligibility requirements. While not confirmed, the whispers are enough to make some teams hesitant, especially given the tight turnaround between the Combine and final pre-draft workouts.

This has led to speculation that their recent rise — though promising — may be coming too late in the process to fully shift their draft fortunes. With many teams already narrowing their draft boards, the pressure is on for Brea and Oweh to not only perform but dominate during the remaining scrimmages and interviews.

For now, both players remain focused and engaged, taking every opportunity seriously in Chicago. And while the road to the NBA may not be closed, it’s certainly steep. The next 72 hours could determine whether their Combine breakout becomes a real draft-day story — or just another “what-if” tale.

Either way, the spotlight is now firmly on them. The question is: can they hold it?
