The New England Patriots officially announced their three coordinators for the 2025 season on Wednesday afternoon, putting an end to recent speculation.
Josh McDaniels is returning for his third stint as the team’s offensive coordinator, while former Detroit Lions defensive line coach Terrell Williams will take over as defensive coordinator. Head coach Mike Vrabel has decided to retain Jeremy Springer as the special teams coordinator.
Offensive Coordinator: Josh McDaniels
McDaniels previously served as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2008 and again from 2012 to 2021. His connection with the organization dates back to 2001 when he started as a personnel assistant. Over the years, he played a key role in the team’s success, contributing to six Super Bowl victories.
Notably, McDaniels helped guide quarterback Mac Jones to a successful rookie campaign in 2021, earning him a Pro Bowl selection and a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie team. Now, he will focus on developing rookie quarterback Drake Maye as the future leader of the franchise.
Defensive Coordinator: Terrell Williams
Williams joins the Patriots after serving as the Detroit Lions’ defensive line coach and run game coordinator last season. He has prior experience working with Vrabel, having spent six years with him in Tennessee. From 2018 to 2022, he coached the Titans’ defensive line and later took on assistant head coach duties in 2023.
Lions reporter Mike Payton of A to Z Sports described Williams as one of the top defensive line coaches in the NFL, highlighting his ability to develop players and maximize their performance, even those lower on the depth chart.
Special Teams Coordinator: Jeremy Springer
Despite the Patriots’ struggles last season, their special teams remained a bright spot under Springer’s leadership. His effectiveness and strong rapport with players have earned him another season in New England.
