As the race for the Super Bowl narrows to just four teams, many NFL franchises have already shifted their focus to the 2025 draft and plans for rebuilding.
The Cleveland Browns find themselves at a pivotal moment, equipped with valuable draft assets that could significantly impact their future. Holding the No. 2 overall pick and a total of nine selections across various rounds—including their own picks in Rounds 2-4 and 6, along with additional selections—the Browns have considerable options available.
The second overall pick offers both opportunities and challenges for Cleveland’s draft approach. Browns insider Tony Grossi has fueled speculation by proposing a potential trade involving cornerback Greg Newsome II, especially if the team is considering drafting standout prospect Travis Hunter.
Newsome’s situation complicates the team’s decision-making. Grossi explained that if the Browns select Hunter, they might need to trade Newsome, but his current market value is limited. “You’re unlikely to get a first-round pick for him—probably no more than a fifth, given his salary and performance,” Grossi remarked. He suggested that the timing may not be ideal for the Browns to pursue Hunter.
As Newsome enters his fifth year, his trade value remains uncertain due to financial factors and recent on-field production. This evaluation is crucial in the context of Hunter’s potential selection, as the versatile prospect has excelled as both a cornerback and wide receiver.
While Hunter’s flexibility makes him an appealing choice, Grossi believes the Browns might benefit more by exploring trade opportunities, potentially involving teams like the New York Giants or Las Vegas Raiders.
A trade-down from the No. 2 spot could allow the Browns to accumulate additional draft assets while still targeting a quarterback later in the first round, possibly around the sixth pick.
