The Cleveland Browns have several pressing needs this offseason, and while much of the attention is on the quarterback position, their running back situation is equally concerning.
With Nick Chubb’s future uncertain following his latest injury, Cleveland will likely need to find a new lead back. However, given their limited salary cap space, signing a running back in free agency may not be a viable option. Instead, the Browns could look to the NFL Draft to address the position.
In a recent seven-round mock draft by Pro Football Network, Cleveland is projected to select South Carolina running back Raheim Sanders in the fourth round. The outlet describes Sanders as a versatile, three-down back with solid route-running skills and reliable hands. Although he has lost some explosiveness since his early days at Arkansas, his vision and ability to maintain balance through contact remain impressive.
Sanders played his first three college seasons at Arkansas before transferring to South Carolina for the 2024 season. In his final year, the 22-year-old recorded 881 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He also contributed as a receiver with 27 catches for 316 yards and two touchdowns.
Addressing the backfield will be a priority for the Browns in the coming months, and selecting a running back in the mid-rounds of the draft could be their best option. If they choose this path, Sanders could be an excellent addition to the team.
